Validate Address, Postcode, Suburb and State

Sunday, Feb 23, 2020

It is important to have accurate data for addresses. Currently we have a full list of Australian postcodes and localities, however we can setup the same databases for other countries - just let us know which you need, and send us the databases if you have them.

Skills required

  • Adding new fields
  • Editing forms

Creating the fields

If you have AVETMISS fields already created then they already exist! The only field you really need to create (and is not part of the default AVETMISS set) is the Autocomplete postcode list.

Autocomplete postcode list

Name: Autocomplete postcode list Label: Type postcode or area - then select from list Tooltip: Type postcode or area - then select from list Type: Autocomplete (Internal) Internal List: AVETMISS 7.0 Postcode HTML class for width: 100%

Suburb text field, eg AVETMISS 7.0 Address Location - Suburb, Locality or Town

Label: Suburb or Town Type: text HTML class for width: 50%

State Lookup List, eg AVETMISS 7.0 State

Label: State Type: Lookup List (Internal) HTML class for width: 30%

Postcode text field, eg AVETMISS 7.0 Postcode

Label: Postcode Type: Text HTML class for width: 20%

How to set up the fields on the form

This is likely already set up by default, however if you are creating a new form here are the ‘HTML Class’ values for each field:

  • Autocomplete postcode list HTML Class: AusAddressLookup Layout: Full width

  • Suburb text field, eg AVETMISS 7.0 Address Location - Suburb, Locality or Town HTML Class: AusAddressSuburb Layout: Begin new line Mandatory: Public and Private draft and submit

  • State Lookup List, eg AVETMISS 7.0 State HTML class: AusAddressState Layout: Continue line Mandatory: Public and Private draft and submit

  • Postcode text field, eg AVETMISS 7.0 Postcode HTML class: AusAddressPostcode Layout: Continue line Mandatory: Public and Private draft and submit

Using the mandatory setting ‘Public draft and submit’, means these fields are not mandatory for private (administration portal) users. This allows flexibility to optionally omit data. However if you wish to make these fields mandatory for administration portal users change the setting to ‘Public and Private draft and submit’.

How to work with International Clients and AVETMISS reporting AVETMISS client address collection does not apply to international clients, regardless of whether they are taught on-shore or off-shore. Read more here. Enter OSPC in the postcode field to refer to an overseas locality and postcode.
